Regardless of whether you would like a beautiful URL to show to your audience on social media networks or you’re trying to do something fancy with tracking code, there’s a wide variety of reasons why you would want to host your convertkit landing pages on your WordPress website directly.
If you’ve never connected the two before the process can seem rather daunting but in this article, we’re going to cover the step-by-step way that you can integrate the two easily and painlessly.
Create Your Landing Page In Convertkit
Before we can connect WordPress to our convertkit landing pages, we are going to need a few things.
First, we’re going to need to have installed and set up the convertkit plugin, if you haven’t done that already and you can find the full guide here.
Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, we’re going to need to have built a landing page in convertkit.
This process is extremely Simple, Start by logging in to your convertkit account and navigating to the landing pages and forms tab.
Once the landing pages and forms dashboard is loaded, go ahead and click the “create new” button.
This will open up the option to choose either a landing page or a form, select the “Landing Page” option.
Choosing that option will open up the landing page selector.
The easiest way to sort through all of these is simply to use the checkboxes along the left-hand side of the screen to filter out the options that are most applicable to you.
Once you have selected a template that you would like to work from, click to open it and begin to make the appropriate changes, such as headlines and images.
When you’re satisfied with the look and feel of your landing page, press the save and publish button.
Before we can call the landing page “ ready” there’s one more step that we should take. Navigate to The settings section of the landing page creator and inside of that menu select the SEO and analytics tab.
Inside this tab, we are able to add tracking codes for Google Analytics, Facebook, Pinterest, and a variety of other tracking services that will help us understand exactly how this landing page is performing with our different audiences.
Add whichever codes you use ( most typically this is going to be Google Analytics and Facebook business), then press save inside of the settings menu and save and published again on the landing page.
Using WordPress to Display Your Convertkit Landing Page
Now that you have your landing page built, we need to connect it to our WordPress site (even though you can also use the page as is, even if the URL isn’t pretty!). To do this, we need to go through a very simple two-step process inside of the WordPress backend of our website.
Create a Blank WordPress Page
The first thing we need to do to connect our convertkit landing page to our WordPress site to create a new blank page inside of our website.
You’ll need to log in to your website ( you can typically do this by going to mysite.com/wp-admin) and then navigate to the Pages section of your dashboard.
After you’ve located the pages tab along with the navigation menu on the left-hand side of your dashboard, go ahead and click the Add new button.
This will open up the page creation screen, which is pretty much identical to the post creation screen inside WordPress.
Once your new page has a fully loaded inside of the editor, you’ll need to give it a title ( I typically suggest naming it the same thing as the thing someone will get if they opt-in on your landing page e.g. “How To Connect WordPress and Convertkit – Ebook”)
Connect Your Page to The Convertkit Landing Page
After choosing the name for your page, scroll down to the convertkit section of the page editor ( this will be located underneath the WordPress “Block editor”). Here you will see the option to add a Form, a Landing Page, or a Tab.
Since we are talking about Landing Pages in this article, if you guessed that you are going to be using the “Landing Pages” dropdown menu, you win 100 Points!
In all seriousness though, at this point, all you should have to do is select your convertkit landing page from the landing page drop-down menu and then hit the publish button located in the upper right-hand corner of the WordPress editor.
If for some reason you don’t see your landing page in the drop-down menu oh, you can either choose to give it a few minutes, or you can go to the convertkit plug-in settings and hit the refresh button.
Typically, it will take anywhere from 15 minutes to about an hour for new pages created in convertkit to sync completely with WordPress, so don’t panic if it doesn’t show up immediately.
After you successfully selected the appropriate landing page from the drop-down menu and saved and published the page, all that’s left is to grab the URL and share it.
You should always be able to see the URL of the page along the right-hand side of the page editor under the permalink section or you can simply click the preview button and grab the URL from your browser and share as you like.
One Quick Note About Thank You Pages
At the time of writing this, convertkit does not currently allow you to Add thank you pages built with their platform to WordPress.
This is okay if you aren’t worried about people being redirected after they fill out the form on your landing page or if you’re not running direct paid ads to the landing page.
If you’re planning on running paid traffic where you would like to track conversions coming through that page ( anywhere other than inside of convertkit itself), I would suggest building a simple thank you page inside of WordPress and that in setting that to be the thank you page used by the landing page you built inside of Convertkit.
Once you’ve built the thank you page inside of WordPress, simply copy the URL end go back To the landing page settings inside of convertkit.
Inside the settings menu, under the title of General, you will need to select the redirect to an external page option for what happens when someone subscribes to your form.
This will tell convertkit to send everyone who filled out the form on the landing page to the URL of the page that you pasted in.
I know that like with most technical things, the first time you’re integrating a landing page into convertkit can seem like an extremely difficult task, but after doing it a few times if he comes a very simple one!
